Objectives On completion of this subject the student is expected to demonstrate a knowledge of contemporary aged care policies in Australia and their relationship to aged care; discuss the management implications of the standards for nursing homes and other aged care settings; demonstrate an understanding of the processes necessary to obtain accreditation from the Australian Council on Health Care Standards; demonstrate an understanding of the case mix method of funding of Australian health care organisations, with specific emphasis on the CAM/SAM methodology; critically analyse documentation requirements within extended care settings; implement management processes which support team work within an organisation; utilise communication skills which foster a positive working environment within organisations; review contemporary models of `quality management' for continuous quality improvement of care and explore ongoing evaluation methodologies and tools which will enable quality care within organisations.
Synopsis The subject introduces the structure and function of health care policy and funding for aged care in Australia. It examines management issues relevant to health care facilities and community care.
