Objectives On completion of this subject students will indicate their understanding of gerontic nursing by demonstrating an indepth understanding of the special relationships that are believed to exist between stress, homeostasis, and ageing; indicating their ability to identify the effects of ageing on the specific homeostasis mechanisms of the body; demonstrating their understanding of the effects of age-related change on the structure and function of each of the major systems of the body; indicating their understanding of current developments in theories of ageing; demonstrating an understanding of knowledge to integrate into nursing practice.

Synopsis This subject is designed to enable students to develop an understanding that ageing is not a disease, but a process of life, and is universal to all humans.
