Community health: practice specialities

Objectives After completion of this subject the student is expected to use tools and techniques for health promotion; explain primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in relation to mental health; identify factors that may adversely influence community mental health; state the goals of community mental health nursing; describe the nature, characteristics and phases of crisis; describe the role of the community health nurse in primary, secondary and tertiary crisis prevention; describe the problems of violence, human abuse and drug abuse; outline the role of the community health nurse in schools, occupational health, home care, and maternal and child health nursing; explain the differences, similarities and special needs of immigrants to Australia within the context of community health care.

Synopsis This subject allows the student to persue major community health problems, and the diversity of the community health nursing roles and nursing specialities in various health care settings from a primary health care perspective.
