Objectives Completion of this subject will enable the student to have knowledge of the historical developments, current health issues and economics of the health care and dynamics of health care delivery; critically examine the socio-cultural and environmental influences on health, health care and community health nursing practice from primary health care perspective; integrate nursing and psychosocial theories to community health practice and primary health care; understand the relevance of community nursing process in provision of personal health care and population-based strategies; illustrate applications of basic concepts in community oriented nursing practice in various health care settings; discuss the function of community groups as consumers and participants and their contribution to community life; apply principles of quality assurance to community health nursing practice; access a given community and develop a plan of action to develop intervention and evaluation strategies.
Synopsis This subject introduces the student to the principles of primary health care and community health nursing; conceptual foundations for community health nursing practice and their application within the framework of `new public health'.
