Objectives Having satisfactorily completed this subject it is expected that the student will be able to appreciate that health care organisations function within political and economic constraints; discuss the role of organisational structures in the workplace; evaluate the contribution of leadership, management and team work to provision of quality nursing care; demonstrate a variety of effective communication techniques relevant to nursing and working effectively in a multidisciplinary team; apply a range of problem-solving and time management strategies that enchance organisation of clinical workload; describe effective stress management options that promote the nurse's ability to cope with challenging and critical incidents; outline the importance of motivating for continuously improved performance in nursing practice.
Synopsis This subject provides students with the opportunity to study and understand the concepts of management as they apply in health care. The subject is taught by lectures and group discussion. Students will have opportunities to apply theory to hypothetical clinical situations.
Assessment Written (1000 words): 20% + Project (2500 words): 30% + Examination 50%
