6 points + 12 hours per week + Second semester + Gippsland/Distance + Prerequisites: Registered nurse

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students will be expected to relate the concept of holistic health to nursing health assessment and nursing practice; identify communication skills that will enhance the nurse/client therapeutic relationship; discuss the nursing process as a framework for delivering appropriate client care; completely assess and record a client's health history; perform and document a systematic physical assessment; and analyse health assessment data using a problem solving approach in order to develop an appropriate plan for client care.

Synopsis Assessing clients' needs for nursing care. Nursing health assessment is viewed within the context of the nursing process and acknowledges the need for nurses to systematically obtain client data in order to give competent care based upon the goal of health promotion.
