Objectives Classroom, laboratory and clinically based learning activities are expected to enable students to demonstrate preoperative education and assessment of patients undergoing orthopaedic, obstetric, gynaecologic, ENT, and ophthalmic surgery; postoperative assessment, evaluation, and discharge planning for these patients.
Synopsis Students will learn theoretical and clinical concepts of orthopaedic, obstetric, gynaecologic, `ear, nose and throat' (ENT), and ophthalmic surgical intervention in adults and children. They will utilise knowledge of the nursing process, anatomy and pathophysiology in order to assess the needs of the individual surgical patient. Students will have the opportunity to consolidate cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills required to perform nursing practices within the perioperative environment.
