Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based and student driven activities, this subject should enable students to develop a knowledge base of the various manifestations of cardiac health breakdown, including methods of assessments and intervention; explore the effects of cardiac health breakdown to the client, and develop strategies for client adjustment; develop the skills and knowledge to competently and independently intervene in life-threatening health crises situations; explore carious non-medical therapies in relation to cardiac health breakdown, and adapt them to the technological environment; demonstrate an increasing knowledge of therapeutic agents in terms of relevant legislation and safe nursing practice; employ critical thinking to discriminate between various nursing practices and therapeutic interventions; demonstrate adaptability and accommodation to change and the ability to initiate change and development in cardiopulmonary nursing practice.
Synopsis Students explore and develop the specific knowledge and skills needed to understand and manage clients with cardiac health breakdown. Incorporated in this unit is an analysis of the specific assessment, interventions and lifestyle adjustments involved in the client's experience of this phenomenon.
Assessment An examination, critical analysis of a chosen health practice and by clinical performance standards.
