Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based and student driven activities, this subject should enable students to analyse the interrelationships and processes of major pathophysiological and psychosocial phenomena; apply previously learned pathophysiological concepts to a systematic framework in order to organise, analyse and synthesise data within a variety of acute and critical care settings; demonstrate specific health assessment skills to a patients health breakdown process; demonstrate appropriate nursing assessment and therapies to health breakdown processes.
Synopsis Students apply previously learned pathophysiological concepts to critical care nursing practice. Concepts such as ischaemia, immuno-suppression, hypoxia, arrhythmiogenesis, altered awareness to consciousness and oedema are applied to various clinical presentations of patients and assessment of these dysfunctions.
Assessment An examination, a written report and through observations of patient care.
