Professor R Axford

36 hours lectures + 36 hours clinical over 9 to 12 weeks + Second semester + MMC Clayton

Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based, and student driven activities, this subject should enable students to explore a variety of approaches used to improve nursing and midwifery practice which are based upon research methods; evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of such approaches in relation to the organisational environment; select an appropriate planned improvement to practice, based on the strengths and weakness identified; evaluate the efficiency of a planned intervention to improve care based on health care research practices.

Synopsis This subject aims to evaluate research approaches used to improve health care. Practices are explored within the context of organisational behaviour and change literature. Students will engage in midwifery or advanced nursing practice in their area of specialisation in order to consolidate their own skill and practice base within a health care organisation.

Assessment Students may choose assessment methods and analyse a health care research practice project or develop a nursing research proposal.
