Synopsis This subject seeks to sharpen students' understanding of the Australian health care system by juxtaposing it with other countries. The reference set of countries will include the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, and selected European countries. In addition to examining the structure of different health care systems and outcomes, such as efficiency, equity and access, the subject will consider policy differences between countries with regard to contemporary issues (eg organ donation and transplantation programs, long-term care and the ageing of the population medical technology assessment, etc).
Assessment Essay: 2000 words + Students are expected to read two or three assigned articles per week and to be prepared to discuss them
