The Doquile Perret Limon Medical Ethics Award
This award is available to all undergraduate students. Prizes are awarded for
the two best essays on a medical ethics issue submitted by preclinical
students, clinical students and an award for the overall best essay.
Faculty Prize
A prize of $200 is awarded by the faculty to the top two students in first
year.
Professor Wallace Ironside Prize in Behavioural Sciences
This prize of $200 is awarded to the student who achieves the highest aggregate
mark in the combined semester one and semester two `Health, illness and human
behaviour' subject.
Faculty Prize
A prize of $200 is awarded by the faculty to the top two students in second
year.
Mark Barnett Prize
This prize, of an engraved medal and $200, is awarded by the Department of
Pathology and Immunology to the student who achieves the highest aggregate mark
in the MED2052 (Tissue injury, neoplasia and inflammation) histopathology
exam.
The William M Crosby Prize
This prize is awarded by the Department of Physiology to the student who
achieves the highest aggregate mark in the `Cardiovascular and respiratory
medicine' subject.
Stephen James Zanon Memorial Research Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to the second-year student who achieves the highest
aggregate mark in the subject MED2052 (Tissue injury, neoplasia and
inflammation) and entitles the student to undertake scientific research within
the Department of Pathology and Immunology at the Alfred Hospital.
Faculty Prize
A prize of $200 is awarded by the faculty to the top two students in third
year.
Australian Medical Association Medical Officers of Health Prize
A prize of $150 awarded for the best medical student in third year.
AMMG Prize for Clinical and Communication Skills
A prize of $250 is awarded by the Association of Monash Medical Graduates to
the student obtaining the highest aggregate marks in MED2061/2 and MED3051/2
(Clinical and communication skills I and II) in second and third year.
Paul Boyce Prize
This prize, valued at around $200 is awarded to the third-year student,
selected by his or her peers, who has contributed most to the first three years
of the Monash medical course and who has some of the qualities which won the
late Paul Boyce the respect and admiration in which he was held. The prize may
be a book token or a stethoscope.
ICI Pharmacology Prize
This prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in the
third-year subject MED3042 (Basic and clinical pharmacology and toxicology
II).
Solly Faine Prize
This prize of $100 and an engraved medallion is awarded to the student who
achieves the highest mark in the infectious diseases component of MED3062.
David Rosenthal Memorial Prize
This prize is awarded to the student with the highest aggregate mark for the
first three years of the medical course.
Medical Defence Union Elective Bursary
A bursary of $800 is awarded to the student or students with the highest
results following the completion of a multiple-choice question paper set by the
Medical Defence Union. This bursary is awarded to assist students with their
elective term in the fifth year of the MB BS course.
John Cade Memorial Medal
A memorial medal to the fourth-year student with the highest aggregate of marks
in `Psychological medicine'.
McInnes Prize in Clinical Subjects
A prize of $200 to the fourth-year medical student who demonstrates the highest
ability in the clinical subjects of `Medicine' and `Surgery' as determined by
the results of a separate clinical examination.
Belinda Farrell Community Medicine Prize
A prize of $200 to the fourth-year student who obtains the highest marks in the
communication skills component of the fourth year of the MB BS degree.
Fourth-year Faculty Prize in Clinical Studies
A prize of a plaque and a medical publication to the value of $150 to the
fourth-year student who obtains the highest aggregate of marks in fourth-year
`Clinical studies'.
Nairn Medal in Pathology
A prize of a medal to the student who demonstrates the highest ability in
pathology, determined by the highest mark in the pathology component of the
fourth-year laboratory exam, or the most deserving student as determined by the
head of department.
Jean Tolhurst Prize in Microbiology
A prize to the fourth-year student who achieves the highest mark in the
microbiology component of the fourth-year laboratory exam.
Fairfield Hospital Clinical Society Prize
A prize for the best case report or submission by a fifth-year student during
rotation at the Fairfield Hospital.
Sigma Award in Neonatal Paediatrics
A prize of $100 awarded each year to a fifth-year student following selection
for an examination in neonatal paediatrics.
Queen Victoria Medical Centre Staff Prize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
A prize of $200 awarded to the fifth-year student who obtains the highest mark
in `Obstetrics and gynaecology'.
Medical Defence Union Electives Prize
A prize as determined by the Medical Defence Union to the fifth-year student or
students who submit the best elective reports as selected by a subcommittee
represented by all fifth and sixth-year teaching departments. This prize is
awarded during sixth year.
Sophie Davis Memorial Prize
A gold medallion and $75 for the student who obtains the highest aggregate
marks in the award of the MB BS degree with honours.
Arthur Clark Award in Paediatrics
A prize of $200, a certificate and a literary book selected by the department,
to the student who in paediatrics demonstrates the highest ability as assessed
by the results of a clinical examination. The five students obtaining the
highest marks overall in the fifth-year paediatrics assessment are selected as
candidates for this clinical examination, scheduled for the following year.
Monash Medical Centre Award in Paediatrics
A prize of $100 to the sixth-year student who submits the best longitudinal
study of the development of an infant.
Alfred Hospital Residents' and Graduates' Association Prize
A prize of $200 to the sixth-year student who, after studying in the Alfred
Hospital Clinical School, obtains the highest aggregate of marks in the
sixth-year examinations.
Monash Medical Centre Board of Management Prize
A prize of $100 and a medallion to the sixth-year student from the Monash
Medical Centre Clinical School who obtains the highest aggregate of marks in
the award of the MB BS degree with honours.
Monash Medical Centre Senior Medical Staff Prize in Psychological Medicine
A prize of $250 to the sixth-year student who, after studying at the Monash
Medical Centre Clinical School, demonstrates the highest ability in
psychological medicine.
RACP Victorian State Committee Prize in Clinical Medicine (MMC and Alfred)
Prizes of a plaque and a $100 book voucher, one each at MMC and Alfred
Clusters, for the top final-year students in clinical medicine at each cluster
determined by the highest mark in the final-year clinical exams (long case and
OSCA).
Association of Monash Medical Graduates' Prize
An award of $250 together with a medallion to the sixth-year student who is
judged by his or her colleagues to be the outstanding student during the course
of the MB BS degree.
Monash Medical Centre Senior Medical Staff Prize
A prize of $250 and a plaque to the sixth-year student who, after studying at
the Monash Medical Centre Clinical School, obtains the highest aggregate of
marks.
Alfred Hospital Psychiatry Unit Prize
A prize of $300 to the sixth-year student who obtains the highest aggregate of
marks, or the most deserving student as determined by the head of unit in the
sixth-year psychological medicine rotation at the Alfred Hospital Clinical
School.
Australian Medical Association Prize
An award of $1000 to the sixth-year student who obtains the highest aggregate
of marks in the sixth-year examinations.
Neil Carson Prize in Community Medicine
An award of $250 to the sixth-year student who is the most deserving as
determined by the head of department, based on marks archieved in `Community
medicine'.
Sir Edward Hughes Medal and Prize
An award for the highest aggregate mark in `Surgery' as determined by fifth and
sixth-year assessments aided by, when required, a separate clinical
examination.
Bryan Hudson Prize in Medicine
A prize awarded by the Department of Medicine (Monash Medical Centre) for the
best student essay on a patient seen during the fifth year of the course. The
prize consists of a medal and a scroll.
The Ciba-Geigy Prize
This prize, comprising the Ciba collection of medical illustrations by Dr Frank
Netter - currently twelve volumes, is awarded to the top final-year student by
Ciba-Geigy Australia Limited.
Australasian College of Dermatologists Prize in Dermatology
A prize of $100 and a textbook awarded to the student who obtains the highest
marks in an examination conducted by the Victorian faculty of the college.
Harriet and Robert Power Scholarships in Medicine and Surgery
The trustees of a fund established in memory of the late Harriet and Robert
Power have granted a scholarship, awarded annually, to encourage the
acquisition of sound practical knowledge of the principles of medicine and
surgery. The awards are open only to final year students from the Alfred
Hospital Clinical School and are determined by a written exam, followed by a
vive voce for selected candidates, arranged by the clinical supervisor on
behalf of the Alfred Hospital board.
Harry Hindlip Green Scholarship in Medicine
A fund established by Frederick Richard Green to commemorate the naming of his
son. Awarded annually for excellence in the area of medicine. The award is open
only to final-year Alfred medical students and is determined by a written exam,
followed by a vive voce for selected students, arranged by the clinical
supervisor on behalf of the Alfred Hospital board.
Prince Henry's Prize in Surgery
This prize is awarded to the sixth-year student at Monash Medical Centre who
achieves the highest aggregate mark in `Surgery' as determined by the results
of the fifth-year surgery rotation and the final-year exam.
Box Hill Hospital Prize in Clinical Medicine
This prize of $500 and a medal is awarded to the student who, after studying
medicine at Box Hill Hospital, demonstrates the highest ability as determined
by the results of a written examination. Candidates are selected to sit the
examination after performance in the clinical OSCA at the end of each
rotation.
