Objectives To provide training on a selected group of management topics which are likely to confront graduates early in their careers.
Synopsis Product costing and evaluation: components of cost, variation with volume, break even analysis, production/marketing implications, pay back calculations, accounting rate of return, discounted cash flow. Buying models: what decision do buyers make? Who participates in those decisions? What are the major influences on these decisions? Commercial arrangements: negotiation process, letters of agreement, contracts and their features. Safety, environment and occupational health, regulations, codes of practice, Australian standards. Ergonomics: computer workstation design and ergonomics, human physical and mental capacities, occupational health aspects. Project management: setting objectives, identification of stakeholders, planning, progress control and measurements, commissioning, training and handover, reporting. Product evaluation: consideration and evaluation of specific proposals.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60% + Practical work and coursework: 40%
