Design for manufacturing

Objectives The aim of this subject is to allow students to undertake an industrial engineering approach to the critical analysis and design of manufactured products.

Synopsis Design for function, manufacturing, assembly, storage and transportation, the role of prototype. Economics of manufacturing equipment and processes. Cost estimation of equipment requirements, materials and labour cost, standardisations and variety reduction. Fixtures. Assessment of appropriate production.

Assessment Examination: 70% + Assignments: 30%
