Manufacturing processes 1

Objectives To understand various manufacturing processes and appreciate the economics and the choice of process.

Synopsis Casting: sand, gravity pressure, precision and centrifugal castings. Mechanical working: forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing. Sheet metal working: shearing, roll forming, deep drawing, spinning and explosive forming. Powder metallurgy. Metal finishing. Economics of manufacturing. Testing and inspection: destructive and non-destructive testing. Quality control.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% + Assignments and test: 30%
