Objectives Students will develop an understanding of computer-aided simulation as a method of improving the modelling of productive systems.
Synopsis The syllabus will include an introduction to modelling comparing deterministic to probabilistic models and considering randomness in systems. Method of defining system boundaries, data collection, data simplification, reduction and aggregation will be considered. Form design will also be discussed. System input, statistical distributions and process modelling: process definition, simplification and process statistical distributions. Modelling of storage and capacity planning, access modes (FIFO, LIFO, etc), labour modelling including shift patterns, materials and information flow in productive systems. Model verification and validation and design of experiments using computer tools.
