Objectives To develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of (a) current issues in stability theory, turbulence theory and research and/or (b) direct numerical simulation of unsteady and turbulent three-dimensional flows and/or (c) advanced measurement techniques in fluid mechanics, turbulence research, heat transfer and mixing research.
Synopsis Topics from the current research interests of the lecturer chosen from the following: topological analysis of coherent structures and fine scale motion in turbulent flow, stability and control of free shear and bounded shear flows, direct numerical simulation of turbulent flows using spectral methods, advances in hot-wire anemometry, introduction to optical methods for full field velocity vector measurements and temperature field measurements.
