Machine condition monitoring

Objectives To develop (a) a basic understanding of the various machine condition monitoring techniques and their application, (b) a working knowledge of instrumentation and analysis techniques for both vibration and wear debris monitoring and (c) skills in justifying and implementing condition monitoring programs.

Synopsis Recent development in techniques of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of mechanical equipment: principles and economics of condition monitoring of machinery; vibration-based condition monitoring; wear-particle analysis based condition monitoring; performance monitoring; comparison of monitoring techniques; case studies; expert systems.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% + Assignments: 30%
