Objectives Exposure to the principal physical processes, the engineering problems and the methods of design in the coastal environment. The need to consider the coastal zone and its processes as a whole is stressed, fundamentals are covered rigorously and practical applications are introduced with the objective of enabling the graduate to be immediately productive in industry.

Synopsis Generation and propagation of waves, energy spectra, sand and silt transport in the coastal zone, design of beach protection, design of harbour layout and inlets, design of breakwater cross section.

Assessment Written: 20% + Examination (2 hours): 80%
