Objectives The student is expected to learn how to apply fundamental fluid mechanics knowledge to two areas of design application, that of aeronautical aerodynamics and some industrial aerodynamics and to develop some basic understanding of the aerodynamics of separated flow.
Synopsis The aerodynamics of aircraft flight will be developed, in particular aspects of aircraft performance, control and static stability will be covered. The industrial aerodynamics section will first develop the fundamentals of bluff body aerodynamics, turbulence effects and separated flows and then lead to applications in the aerodynamic loading of structures and duct flows.
Assessment Examination: 70% + Laboratory and design assignments: 30%
