Energy management

Objectives By the end of the subject, the successful student will have knowledge and understanding of generic types of energy consuming industrial equipment and of the techniques for the conduct of energy audits in a variety of industries; will be skilled in the conduct of energy audits on selected energy consuming industrial equipment and the synthesis of energy conservative designs of such equipment using a `client-centred' approach to these problems; and will have the ability to concisely present and communicate information to fellow students and to instructors.

Synopsis Review of energy use by sector concentrating on the industrial and commercial sectors; strategies for energy conservation in these sectors; thermal energy reticulation and storage; energy management; energy audits; economic analyses of common energy consuming equipment including environmental effects; synthesis of optimised energy systems for common industrial and commercial applications; case studies for large energy consuming industries.

Assessment Examination: 75% + Assignments: 25%
