Objectives To develop: a basic understanding of the application of computers in manufacturing; a working knowledge of computer numerical control programming and hardware; an understanding of the use of industrial robots in manufacturing; an appreciation of the degree of automation in a computer integrated manufacturing enterprise.
Synopsis The basic concepts of manufacturing systems; automation of those systems. Computer-aided design; its basis and application. The feature of NC machine tool; design considerations; operation. NC part programming; the APT language. Industrial robots; robot programming; sensors; applications. Computer-integrated production management. Computer control. Artificial intelligence in design and manufacturing. Implementing CIM systems.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 80% + Test on laboratory work: 20%
