Objectives This subject offers instruction in computers, and in particular microprocessors, for students wishing to specialise in the study of mechatronics. The intention is to provide insight into the way computers can be used to interact with the outside world, expanding the macroscopic view implicit in the programming subjects taken earlier in the course.

Synopsis Computer architecture and hardware. Sensors and transducers; actuators; interfacing these. Real time systems: interrupts, software techniques, examples.

Assessment Examination (formal written): 50% + Examination (practical): 25% + Assignment: 25%
