Integral transforms and calculus of variations

J C Lattanzio

3 points + 26 lectures, 12 consultation/practical classes + First/Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: MAT2910 and MAT2920

Objectives The student will be introduced to a number of mathematical techniques and it is expected that he/she will master these and be able to apply them to a range of (relatively simple) problems.

Synopsis This course involves the use of special (Bessel and Legendre) functions to solve standard forms of certain partial differential equations; the elementary theory of the calculus of variations; the use of Laplace and Fourier transforms to solve differential, integral and other such equations; general properties of the forward and inverse Laplace and Fourier transforms.

Assessment Examinations (1.5 hours): 75% + Other assessment: 25%
