Objectives The student will be introduced to a number of mathematical techniques and it is expected that he/she will master these and be able to apply them to a range of (relatively simple) problems.
Synopsis This course involves the use of special (Bessel and Legendre) functions to solve standard forms of certain partial differential equations; the elementary theory of the calculus of variations; the use of Laplace and Fourier transforms to solve differential, integral and other such equations; general properties of the forward and inverse Laplace and Fourier transforms.
