Objectives Ability to perform a variety of operations in differential and integral calculus and complex and vector algebra and apply these operations to appropriate engineering problems.
Synopsis Revision including differentiation and integration. Exponential, logarithmic, circular and periodic fluctuations including piecewise periodic functions. Application of differential calculus to kinematics. Implicit, logarithmic and parametric differentiation. Introductory vector algebra. Complex algebra including polar form, deMoivre's theorem and Euler's formula. Inverse circular, hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic functions. Integration using standard tables, identities and systematic methods. Definite integrals. Application to mean and RMS values, areas. Introduction to Derive software package.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% + Test: 10% + Assignment: 10% + Tutorial mark: 10%
