Objectives The student is expected to understand the key requirements for the effective supervision of people with specific emphasis on communication, motivation and leadership; examine the content and approaches to, the functional areas of planning, organising, staffing and monitoring; understand the importance to the supervisor/manager of personal development and self-management; gain insight into equal opportunity legislation. The student is expected to develop improved people skills and self-management skills.

Synopsis This subject is designed to give students an understanding of the theory of organisations and to develop supervisory/management skills. Topics include management functions of planning and organising work, supervising, leadership, controlling, motivation, counselling skills, self-improvement, job satisfaction, training and development, group and organisational behaviour, introduction to industrial relations and other relevant topics.

Assessment Examination: 60% + Assignments: 40%
