Robotic systems

6 points + 39 lecture hours and 39 tutorial/laboratory hours + Second semester + Gippsland + Prerequisites: completion of the 2nd year subjects

Objectives The student is expected to gain a basic understanding of the industrial applications of robotics. Also, the student is expected to gain familiarity with the general structure and terminology of industrial robots. Through this subject the student is expected to acquire the basic knowledge of robot selection programming and operation for task requirements.

Synopsis Introduction; robots' applications; robots general structure; end-effector's design and job requirements; economic justification of utilising robots; robot selection process. Laboratory sessions will be conducted to ensure hands-on experience in the robotics field. Site visits to manufacturing plants where robots are heavily used.

Assessment Examination: 50% + Assignment/laboratory/project: 50%
