12 points + 300 hours project work + Full-year subject + Gippsland/Distance + Prerequisites: Completion of third-year studies

Objectives This subject gives students an opportunity to bring together their knowledge, experience and developing engineering skills to solve an engineering problem. It provides practice in practical problem solving in an environment where assistance is readily available.

Synopsis Students undertake a project related to a realistic industrial problem, developing a solution over a period of about 30 weeks and presenting their findings in the form of a detailed report and at a seminar. Project topics are agreed in consultation with a campus-based supervisor. Where projects are carried out in conjunction with an outside body, an industry based supervisor is also appointed. Students are expected to maintain close contact with their supervisors and are required to present progress reports throughout the year.

Assessment Based on the final detailed report, progress reports and oral report(s) at seminar(s).
