Objectives The student is expected to develop an awareness of the need for dedicated design and fault finding tools in computer systems engineering in order to optimise the design and the maintenance of the equipment. The student is expected to develop confidence in using an integrated workstation for designing and troubleshooting in digital systems.
Synopsis Detailed study of a 16-32 bit microprocessor (MC 68000 - 68040 family); computer peripherals and interfacing, design and testing of interface circuits (hardware and software); standard serial and parallel buses (IEEE 488, IEEE 696 etc); microcomputer testing and trouble shooting.
Assessment Examination: 60% + Laboratory examination: 30% + Assignments: 10%
