4 points + 22 lectures, 11 tutorials, 18 hours laboratory classes + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites ENE2101

Objectives To develop an understanding of the theory and methodology underlying mass transfer and heat transfer components of environmental processes.

Synopsis Mass transfer and separation processes in environmental systems, process plant and equipment; diffusive and convective processes within and between phases, equilibrium stage operations, leaching and extraction, gas absorption, adsorption. Heat transfer, mechanisms, conduction, convection and radiation, analytical description, analysis of heat transfer systems, analysis and design of simple heat exchangers; heat transfer with phase change. Examples to be derived from global air, water and soil systems as well as specific processes. Laboratory exercises, experiments, problem solving sessions using computers, plant visit.

Assessment Examination: 80% + Laboratory work: 20%
