Biomechanics

3 points + 36 hours of lectures, seminars and practical work + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: Level 3 of BSc(Physiology)/BE substantially complete

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a knowledge of human biomechanics and measurement systems used to measure human biomechanical parameters.

Synopsis Introduction to the building blocks of the human biomechanical system, namely, bones, joints, ligaments, cartilage and muscle. The study of normal human locomotion in terms of its biomechanics. Issues relating to disability and related rehabilitation technology. Practical classes will introduce students to methods used to measure human locomotion.

Assessment Examination: 50% + Practical work: 30% + Assignment: 20%
