E M Cherry

4 points + 26 lectures, 26 hours of laboratory practicals and tutorials + First/Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: VCE Specialist Mathematics

Objectives The student is expected to develop a basic knowledge of the nature of electrical circuits and an understanding of the concepts involved in the modelling of electrical circuits. This knowledge should cover dc circuits, transients in circuits described by first-order differential equations, the sinusoidal steady state and logic circuits described by Boolean algebra.

Synopsis Basic circuit theory and its application to electrical circuits, laws describing the behaviour of capacitors and inductors, the response of first-order electrical circuits as determined by the solution of first-order, linear differential equations with constant coefficients. The sinusoidal steady state response of electrical circuits as determined by the use of phasor analysis. Boolean algebra and its application to propositional logic and digital logic.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 80% + Tests: 10% + Laboratory work: 10%
