Offshore concrete structures

Objectives To develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the conceptual design procedures of offshore concrete structures and to acquire basic professional skills in the detailed design of some components of such structures.

Synopsis Introduction to gravity base and floating structures. Environmental loads; wave load theory and estimation, determination of design loads. Buoyancy and floating stability. Finite element modelling; global and local analysis. Caisson design in gravity base structures. Concrete mix design and durability in marine environment. Corrosion of reinforcement, prevention and repair. Construction and installation criteria. Quality management.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60% + Project and seminar presentations: 40%
