River hydraulics and sediment transport

6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: CIV4265 or equivalent

Objectives To develop knowledge and understanding of the behaviour of streams formed in sedimentary material and skill in designing hydraulic structures in such a way as to control such behaviour.

Synopsis Origins and properties of sediment, geological factors, stream profiles, stable channel design, rip-rap design, sediment discharge rates, scour phenomena, mobile bed models, meandering, bed forms, resistance to flow, turbulence, secondary flows, diffusion and dispersion, numerical models.

Assessment Examinations (3 hours): 70% + Practical work: 30%
