Introduction to computing in schools

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to conduct a realistic and practical audit of school computer resources; ascertain the usage of computers in the school setting and comment on the effectiveness of the implementation of computing policies; examine the roles and availability of human resources especially in relation to professional development; comment on the effective use of software in the cross-curricula and integrated manner; express understanding of the importance of today's electronic technology with respect to teaching learning and schooling; discuss and relate Seymour Paperts' ideas to the Australian national education agenda.

Synopsis A background and an overview of the history, politics and structures of the professional field; the uses for various hardware configurations and various models for management of learning with computers in the classroom.

Assessment Two assignments (2500 words each): 50% each
