Curriculum studies: business studies secondary I

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to think broadly about the issues involved in developing a national curriculum, especially in studies of society and environment and business studies; develop specific units of work incorporating curriculum statements and profiles and be conversant with emerging professional development issues pertinent to future employment as a business studies teacher.

Synopsis The focus of this subject is how business studies has developed within the progress towards a national curriculum giving consideration to key competencies and how these prepare post-primary students for employment. There is an opportunity to prepare appropriate units of work for Year 9 and/or 10 students and subsequently be aware of the links necessary for effective transition to business studies in senior school. There is an emphasis on keeping curriculum development and content relevant to meet emerging challenges from an ever-changing national employment situation.

Assessment Assignment 1 (500 words): 25% + Assignment 2 (2000 words): 30% + Assignment 3 (2500 words): 45%
