Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have a knowledge and understanding of teachings, ideas and methods in the social studies area; developed skills in classroom practice of social studies teaching; developed a professional awareness of current social studies issues; a capacity to discuss and debate professional issues in a social studies context.
Synopsis This subject will introduce students to the origins of social studies teaching in Australia, the method and scope of such teaching and the range of curriculum materials available to teachers in this area. The subject is taught mainly through workshop presentations and discussion groups.
Assessment A mid-year examination: 40% + A major assignment based on school experience (2000 words): 60%
