Curriculum studies: advanced teaching studies (primary art)

6 points + 2 hours per weekend school + Second semester + Gippsland/Distance + Prerequisites: DipT, GradDipEd or BTeach

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have become informed about recent and past developments of the visual arts curriculum; be able to demonstrate appropriate assessment and appraisal techniques for the art of children; be able to review the content and procedures of instruction in art education; be able to assess the effects of program structure and implementation in regard to art programs in schools; be able to determine the requirements of continuity and integration of learning in visual art across the curriculum.

Synopsis This subject examines the primary art curriculum of the last twenty-five years in Victoria, the current curricula of South Australia and Queensland, and the National Curriculum statements and profiles in the visual arts strand of the arts. The subject is designed to enhance artistic knowledge and teaching skills with regard to art making and appreciation.

Assessment Schools project (2500 words): 60% + Coursework exercises (1500 words): 40%
