Curriculum studies: physical education P-10

6 points + 3 hours per week equivalent + Second semester + Gippsland/Distance + Prerequisites: DipT or GradDipEd or BTeach

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have reviewed recent State frameworks and reports for physical education and identified the impact on schools programs; undertaken a critical review of journal articles in the field of physical education curriculum; planned, applied and critically reviewed a program in a specific area of the physical education curriculum.

Synopsis This subject develops a further understanding of the scope and nature of the physical education curriculum. It will examine recent developments in the physical education curriculum with reference to the national documents (Profile and Statements) released by the Australian Education Council. This subject will examine current issues impacting upon the content, teaching and delivery of physical education in schools. Students will select a human movement or physical activity area to research and develop a detailed program suitable for use in schools (fitness, computer applications, pmmp, major games, gymnastics, dance, swimming, athletics etc.). It is anticipated that most students will already have been in schools where they can trial their ideas (special provision will be negotiated where applicable).

Assessment Assignment 1 (2000 words): 50% + Assignment 2 (2500 words): 50%
