Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed their knowledge of different approaches to economic analysis in education; know the main features of the structure, finance and costs of the main sectors of education and training in Australia; have developed skills in the collection of data from a range of sources; have gained experience in economic analysis of educational policy issues.
Synopsis This subject focuses on the interaction between education training and the economic system. The subject aims to outline the major approaches, interpret key issues in the economics and financing of education and training, and assist students to develop their research skills. Topics considered will include the funding, efficiency and quality in education and training, equity in educational resource distribution; teachers and the economy; education and the needs of the economy for skilled and technologically trained workers; education and unemployment; education and income.
Assessment Participation: 10% + Report (2000 words): 30% + Seminar presentation (4000 words): 60%
