Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have further developed the knowledge and skills achieved in GED0515 and be able to demonstrate advanced teaching competence in one specialist area of the English curriculum.
Synopsis This subject extends further the studies undertaken in GED0515. Students will further develop their understanding of children's language and literacy development. They will consider at an advanced level some of the following areas of the English curriculum: recent research in literacy and literature teaching; the theory and practice of teaching drama; different classroom settings which encourage children to develop as effective language-users, different teaching approaches and programs and how these can be planned flexibly to cater for children at different stages of development and with different language needs. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own practice, both as learners within the profession, and as beginning teachers with responsibilities for the students they teach.
Assessment A precondition for a pass in this method is a pass in practice teaching and 80% attendance at all timetabled classes + A satisfactory level of achievement is also required for each of the following tasks Readings: 20% + Production: 20% + Curriculum package (3000 words): 60%
