An introduction to health education

8 points + 2 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be aware of the role of health education in health care; be familiar with the diversity of approaches to health education; have gained knowledge of a range of topics in the study of health; have developed skills in creating educational programmes in health; have developed skills in the assessment of learning and the evaluation of programmes in health education.

Synopsis This subject is designed to introduce a number of issues relating to education about health. Topics will be selected from physical, mental and social dimensions of health. The subject aims to increase student awareness of developments in the study and promotion of health. The focus is on practical skills, and many teaching strategies are used as demonstrations of some of the possibilities. Participants will be an important resource in determining the way the program is presented.

Assessment Seminar participation + Assignment + Literature review + Seminar presentation + Fact sheet preparation
