Introduction to the management of educational organisations

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should understand the main ideas concerning the administration of educational organisations, be familiar with appropriate management strategies and have developed a critical awareness of current developments in educational management.

Synopsis This subject is designed to introduce students to important concepts in the field of organisational management. It will be directly relevant to people in various educational organisations including schools, higher education institutions, vocational education and training institutions. It will provide students with a broad overview of the field of educational administration and an introduction to current debates and alternative perspectives within the field. Topics to be addressed will include images of organisations, leadership, motivation, group and interpersonal relationships in the work setting and the micropolitics of organisations. The subject will be conducted through lectures, seminars and student presentations.

Assessment Class presentation: 20% + Assignment (3000 words): 80%
