Practices and issues in special education

Objectives Upon successfully completing this subject, students should have increased their knowledge and skills in the field of special education; developed appropriate attitudes towards individuals with special needs; developed increased professional competence.

Synopsis This subject will provide an overview of the education of students with special needs in segregated and integrated settings. Areas covered will include the origins and scope of special education, basic concepts and definitions, the educational consequences of individual differences, curriculum planning and innovations, instructional planning and arrangement and the delivery of special services. Students will be required to participate in lecture-discussions.

Assessment Literature review (1500-2000 words): 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60%
