Computer programming for education

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed competence in programming in the computer language Logo or one of its descendants such as LogoWriter or MicroWorlds; familiarity with programming in an imperative language such as Pascal or Basic; an understanding of a variety of approaches to the teaching of computer programming; and ability to suit teaching approaches to different learning situations.

Synopsis This subject will provide an opportunity to develop programming competence in the computer language, Logo, and to investigate other educational programming languages. The subject will examine approaches to teaching programming and roles in the enhancement of learning for programming languages designed for educational use.

Assessment Journal of programming work (20 pages): 65% + Essay (2000 words): 35%
