Catering for individual differences, assessment and learning in mathematics education

Lecturer in charge to be advised

12 points + 3 hours per week + Clayton

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed an awareness of the wide range of individual differences among pupils in mathematics classrooms and should have acquired skills and strategies for improving the mathematical learning of children at all levels.

Synopsis This subject examines ways of catering for individual differences in the mathematics classroom. Factors that influence the learning of mathematics, instructional strategies, and implementation procedures will be discussed. Selected diagnostic tests will be available for student use. Students are expected to devise and implement an intervention program, and assess its effectiveness. Students are expected to participate in regular lecture-discussions and practical sessions.

Assessment Seminar presentations and two assignments (2000 words each): 50% + Practical project assignment (4000 words): 50%
