Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to plan, implement and evaluate extended learning sequences in school music; discuss current issues in music education principles and practices; contribute to the development of a school music department with an awareness of wider educational perspectives.
Synopsis This subject is intended to prepare students for the teaching of music in post-primary schools and deals with current issues in class music teaching. A wide range of methodologies, content, resources and music education principles such as those of Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, Schafer and Swanwick are considered. Practical class music activities will explore major issues, such as aural development, classroom composition, music technology, mixed ensembles, and strategies for music listening. The music curriculum for the upper years of schooling will be addressed.
Assessment A precondition for a pass in this method is a pass in practice teaching and 80% attendance at all timetabled classes + A satisfactory level of achievement is also required for each of the following tasks Music teaching program (2000 words plus musical examples): 100%
