Modern developments in mathematics education

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have an awareness of a wide range of recent developments in mathematics education and their implications for the classroom and be able to demonstrate an understanding of recent reports, recommendations and legislation from around the world, together with an exploration of the most recent thinking in the ways that mathematics is learned allied with the topics and technology that are now being introduced into mathematics syllabuses at all levels.

Synopsis This subject will provide opportunities for experienced teachers of mathematics to update their knowledge and to consider the implications for the classroom across a wide range of recent developments in mathematics education. The subject is relevant for primary, post-primary and tertiary teachers, particularly those wishing to become advanced skills teachers.
