Administration and planning in developing countries

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to critically appraise the nature of development and educational planning; evaluate the connection between economic modernisation and development education; differentiate between various theories of administration and planning and argue for their relevance in particular developing countries.

Synopsis The focus of the subject is on administrative and planning issues in advanced and developing countries. In particular, Australia and the third world will be examined and compared in terms of common issues, divergent trends, reciprocal relationships. The issues to be discussed will arise in part from the interests of class participants. It is envisaged that they will include planning and administration regarding literacy and nonformal education; universal primary education and educational growth; development of specialist and higher education; national language; equity, democratisation and participation; structural changes.
