6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Peninsula + Prerequisites: EDN5451

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have an understanding of the role of research in sport and of the various methods used in research in sport; have considered the results of various kinds of research in sport; have prepared a first-stage proposal for a group research project in a selected area of sport, completed the review of relevant literature and participated in a group fieldwork activity; understand how the SPSS-X computer program can be used in the analysis of raw data.

Synopsis Consideration will be given to the completed and required research in areas of sports considered in EDN5451. These include administration in sport; sports coaching and training; drug use and control in sport; women in sport; children and sport; sport and politics; Olympic games; sport as entertainment and professionalism in sport.

Assessment Group tutorial presentations (3 x 20%): 60% + Fieldwork and computer laboratory report: 40%
